Glasgow Kiltwalk 2025 Donate Glasgow Kiltwalk - Haemochromatosis Fundraiser Almost exactly one year ago, I was diagnosed with haemochromatosis, a genetic disorder that causes the body to absorb excessive amounts of iron into the bloodstream. It is often asymptomatic, but if left undiagnosed, it can lead to fatigue, joint pain, liver failure, mental health issues, and, ultimately, can be fatal. Unfortunately, there is no cure, but thankfully, if caught early the condition can be easily managed through regular venesection and blood monitoring. After 12 months of regular venesection—donating blood every fortnight—I am finally back to a manageable iron level. Special thanks to the fantastic nurses at IRH who have taken care of me and will continue to do so. To mark the occasion and give back, I am fundraising for Haemochromatosis UK by taking on this year's Glasgow Kiltwalk (23 miles). Haemochromatosis UK is the only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting those affected by this condition. Every penny you donate will go directly towards helping people with genetic haemochromatosis, educating nurses and doctors about the condition, raising public awareness, and funding vital research. If you can, please donate or share this page to help raise awareness! Cheers for your support and reading this far! 😆❤️ Calvin Connaghan Manage Cookie Preferences
